Why does anyone with a job worry about inflation?

Inflation is a measure of how costs are rising relative to income. But what if your income is not tied to your job, but rather to your shares? Then inflation doesn't matter to you. You can just invest in a 60/40 portfolio of shares and bonds, and you have enough money to not worry about inflation. The more desperate and worried about inflation you are, the less you need to worry about inflation.

That is, unless we're approaching a singularity, and your stock portfolio won't be able to keep up with inflation. What then?

How do you hedge against that?
