Why do people like ARs? (I know this has been asked but I'm curious)

I'm not an anti gun person, nor do I think they should be banned, but I don't understand why they are so popular. I don't own an AR, but I have shot plenty. I just don't see the appeal, and most places to hunt around me don't allow them.<br><br>Ultimately, it's whatever you want to use, but I just don't understand the craze. My two favorite guns to shoot are my 1911 and my mossberg, and my favorite rifle is my .308. <br><br>Also I don't see how people can use ARs to hunt with when the ammo is so expensive. My .308 is powerful and the .308 ammo is much cheaper.
