I speak 2 dialects of Chinese and am trying to learn Japanese. Is it worth trying to learn ‘Tokyo dialect’?

My background is that I am originally from China, and speak both Wu and Mandarin Chinese. I know that I can use the grammar and sentence structures of both Chinese dialects to get a leg up on learning Japanese, and my 3 dialects should mutually improve each other

I have visited Tokyo several times, but have mostly spent time in Taipei and Hong Kong. I know that in a hexagonal scenario like Western Europe, there can be 1 official language per state with dialects and regional pronunciations of that official language. However, for example, in China, there is 1 state of China with more than 1 dialect (Mandarin, Wu, Cantonese, and several others)

I know that the dialects of Japanese include the Tokyo dialect and 5 others. I want to know if they are mutually intelligible like dialects of Chinese (i.e., different accents and speaking styles but the same sentence structure) or like English, Spanish, and Portuguese (structurally different grammatically)

If the dialects are mutually intelligible and grammatically similar, then you could apply the Schuchardtian Sprachbund model of a confluence of dialects like the Chinese dialect continuum. In this case, you could ignore the dialects for now and learn standard Japanese. After you achieve fluency, you could revisit the dialects

But if the dialects are structurally different with different grammars or sentence structure, like Macedonian-Bulgarian and Latin-Romance, then you should just pick the most widely spoken dialect, aka Tokyo dialect, and learn it instead of learning a highly centralized standard Japanese.

I’m wondering if anyone has encountered this problem, and how they resolved it (by ignoring the dialects, or learning the most widely spoken one)

TLDR if you speak a European language and a Chinese dialect, which one should you spend more time on?
