As the title suggests, I'm wondering how Middle East and North Africa would look like if the French would have won the French-Algerian War (1954-1962).

This is a theme that was discussed on a Hungarian History subreddit.

I think it's important to first mention that Algeria was a part of France, not a mandate like most of the Middle East during the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century.

So let's first look at the likely consequences in Algeria.

The French would likely have installed a military dictatorship in Algeria. This would have probably held Algeria together.

feasibly, the FLN would have fought a low scale insurgency fight, and the French would have done the same thing as they did in 1954-62 to break the insurgency. Probably most of the Algerian leftists and anti-French elements would have been cracked down on.

For North Africa, Morocco and Tunisia might have stayed a French Mandate, and would have probably experienced a similar fate of Algeria.

It's also likely that Algeria, as a part of France would have joined the EEC, and would have probably supplanted France as the dominant economic power in Europe. Which would have probably changed the dynamics between the UK and France.

We could also possibly see a peaceful solution to the Western Sahara conflict between Algeria and Morocco, but I wouldn't be so sure.

Edit: I changed Mandate to Protectorate.
