Why aren’t AM and PM commonly used in Britain?

If I were to ask someone in the UK what time is 7am just after lunch, I’d get weird looks. Why is time explained differently in the UK to the US?<br><br>Edit: I’ve never seen 3pm on a train or bus stop. Never in my life have I seen it in the UK. It’s just weird
