Don't evolve your Pokemon willy nilly.

So many times when playing Pokémon, the first thing I do when I catch a Pokémon is evolve it into its higher forms immediately. I sometimes will wait on the third evolution if it is very hard to get to; like with a level 50 or level 100 evolution requirement, however, a lot of the time I choose to evolve my Pokémon way too early on in the game.

Recently though, I have been trying to play Pokémon differently. Instead of immediately evolving my Pokémon, I have been waiting longer to evolve Pokémon. This has been a big game changer. For example, in my current platinum playthrough, I chose the fire-type Pokémon, as I always know that the fire-type starter in the 4th generation is underappreciated. I caught a starly, a geodude, and a shinx fairly early on in the game.

Normally when I play Pokémon, I would evolve them immediately, however, this time instead of evolving them to staravia, graveller, and luxio immediately, I'm instead going to wait until they are around level 30. This has been a big game-changer, and has actually made the game more fun; I feel like I'm earning the Pokémon for once, instead of just being given it.

I would highly recommend doing this if you haven't already, its much more satisfying to wait and see your Pokémon grow up naturally, instead of just artificially skipping the development process. I feel like this holds true for many games, not just Pokémon.
