I'm the inmate and I set the rules up in here.

I'm currently in county jail waiting to be sentenced for a drug offense. So, I've been in here for 9 months and 23 days. I set the rules. I say who sits where and who talks to who. The COs (correctional officers) know me and know to leave me alone.

I get discounted canteen because I'm the real police up in here. I get 50 cent ramen noodles that are supposed to be $1. I'm not saying that I'm a bad person, but I can tell you that I'm a powerful person in here. And guess what, I tell the corrections officers what to do too.

I'm not bragging, I'm just telling you the facts. It's like this one deputy that I hate, his name is Garrett. He's very annoying, but I have to tolerate him because he's one of the COs. He likes to enforce rules and think he's tough, but I know the truth.

The truth is, I'm a woman doing time and he's just a man doing a job. I'm not afraid of him and he knows it. I know all the ways to get stuff in here and he knows that I know. I'm the one with the power, not him.

This might sound like a crazy story to you, but it's just my reality. It's not all bad, though. I've made some good friends up in here and we look out for each other. We all try to keep up some level of normalcy.

We talk about our lives outside and what we want to do when we get out. We try to keep our minds off our current situations and we try to keep each other's spirits up.

I've been in some tough spots during my time up in here, but I've always managed to get through them. I'm a survivor and I'll keep on surviving no matter what. If you're in jail, just know that you're not alone.

Sorry to disappoint all you nerds who got triggered over "inmate". We just call each other inmates, it's not derogatory. Inmates, inmates everywhere.
