So I just graduated college about a week ago. It's been a long time coming, and with my last 2 semesters being just as boring as the last 4 years, so I figured it was time to branch out a bit. I received a check for $1000 for graduating (super generous from my grandparents) and decided it was time to treat myself.

I've always wanted to join a gym, to work on my diet and my fitness a bit more, but I just haven't had the motivation to do it. I was recommended to a small gym called Anytime Fitness. I went there and signed up for a 12 month membership. The process was very smooth, the people there were very nice. They gave me a nice tour of the place. There was only 3 treadmills, and a few weights, and a few other random machines for various parts of your body. I was very happy with it. They also told me that they are open 24/7, and that I would be able to come and go as I pleased, which I thought was very nice.

I started going regularly, at least 4 times a week. I'd do a 30 minute jog on the treadmill, then work on my arms a bit, then my chest a bit, and finally my legs. I'd do 3 sets of 10 workouts throughout each process. It was very nice. Once I was done I would go shower, and head home.

One night around 10pm I decided it was time to go. I packed my bag, and headed out the door. I got to the gym, scanned my card, and walked inside. I noticed that nobody was working at the desk, but I wasn't too concerned as I've seen the workers step out every once in a while. The gym was empty except for one man working out. He was a tall, skinny man. He looked to be in his mid 30s. His skin was pale white, almost ghostly. He had brown hair that was long and messy. He was wearing a cream colored sweat suit. It was very vibrant, almost yellow, with Hershey's Cookies and Cream printed all over it. It almost looked like one of those stupid PJs you see on grown men in their 30s with cartoons printed all over it. It was very strange.

I didn't pay much attention to it at first, as I figured this man was just a weirdo. There's a lot of weirdos at a gym, so I wasn't too concerned. I went to the locker room to change my clothes. I come out, and this man is standing right in front of the TV that the cameras are displayed on. There was 6 cameras on the wall, 2 pointing to the parking lot, 2 pointing to the stairs, and 2 pointing to the hallway. The cameras displayed on the TV were the parking lot cameras and they were blacked out, almost as if the cameras were turned off. I didn't think much of it. I walked over to the treadmills, and started jogging. The man was standing still for a few minutes, just staring up at the TV. He finally got up and walked over to the other treadmill, the one next to me. The treadmills were separated by a thin partition, so we couldn't see each other directly, almost like a room divider.

He jumps on the treadmill, and starts walking. He was walking very slow, almost the slowest speed the treadmill could go. He started making a lot of noise, almost like howling. I peeked over the partition a bit and saw him almost crying. He was wiping away tears, and I could hear him sobbing a bit. I thought this man had lost his mind. I continued my jog, a bit concerned.

Finally he calms down and stops the treadmill. I hear him walk off of it. I figured he was just leaving, but no. I hear him walk around to my side of the partition. I look up and there he is. His face is red, his eyes are red, his eyes are bloodshot. He's staring at me. I say hi, trying to break the awkwardness. He doesn't respond. He just keeps staring at me. I continue to jog. I'm getting very concerned at this point, I clutch my pepper spray in my hand, and continue to jog.

He continues to stare at me. I finally finish my jog, and start to walk over to the weights. He follows me. I try to make small talk with him, but he just keeps staring at me. I finally ask him what he wants. He doesn't respond. I tell him to leave me alone. He doesn't respond. He continues to stare at me, almost as if he's in some sort of trance. I start to work out again, but I notice he's still staring at me. I get very upset, and yell at him to leave me alone. I tell him he's very creepy, and very weird.

He finally talks to me.

*I can't bring myself to type out what he said. It was so... so... wrong.*

He runs off, almost as if he's frightened. I run up to the front desk to see if the worker is there. They are. I tell her about what happened, and she falls to the ground. She starts crying and falls to the ground. I'm shocked. I don't know what to do. I call the police, and I explain what happened. I wait for a few minutes for the police to arrive. I see the man in the parking lot, standing next to the stairs. He's staring at me, almost as if he's waiting for me. I wave at him, and he waves back. I get very concerned.

Finally the police arrive, and they ask me what happened. I explain what happened, and they look at each other. The worker comes out and talks to the police as well. I hear them say the man in the Hershey's Cookies and Cream sweat suit is the owner of the gym. That he's been acting very strange lately. That he's been roaming the gym at night, and that he's been creeping out the workers. They tell me they're going to let him go because he doesn't do anything wrong. I get very upset. I tell them I'm going to report this to the gym's headquarters.

I finally leave and go home. I report the incident, and they tell me they've been having other incidents with the owner. They tell me that they're going to open an investigation, and that they're going to look into it. They also tell me they won't refund my $1000.

That was a week ago. I haven't gone to that gym since, and I don't intend to.
