A Better Media Call

A lot of us have been calling for media to treat firearms responsibly. In my opinion, the call to arms for the likes of Military Arms Channel and DemolitionRanch and those trying to balance the disparity with positive gun content is working. A recent survey shows that more than 50% of 18 - 30 year olds in the US have a favorable view of firearms.

I'd like to propose an even better call. Instead of "media" I'd like to propose that we call for a better "press". The idea of the press was to be the unbiased, fact-gathering, truth-reporting media. Instead, modern media is not that. They're biased sources spewing propaganda and sensationalist garbage. They're not a press.

So what if we call for a better press? There are a lot of gun channels out there that do provide unbiased information. They show the facts, to include safety and legality. We need more of those. We need more people who are going to show the truth, and provide it in a way that isn't going to sensationalize or polarize the issue. We need to show the facts, without agenda. We need to show the world that we're here, we're responsible, and we love our firearms.

I've noticed that the people that I really respect in the firearms community are those who show themselves as someone that anyone could sit down with. Colion Noir is a commonly-used example of this, but I'd include the likes of R. Lee Ermey, Tony the Tiger, and most of the guys from Top Shot.

So let's call for a better press. Let's show the world not just that we're responsible, but that we're normal. We're not all awful hillbillies or gun-hoarding preppers. We're your doctors and lawyers and engineers and IT professionals. We're your police and military. We're your neighbors and coworkers.

We need a better press, and I think we need to be the ones to call for it.#####Edit: this blew up.

First, to the likes of lazyunionbob and 0tterlyfrank, I'm sorry for the typo in the first paragraph. I didn't think anyone would notice, let alone comment about it. I'll try to proofread my comments better in the future.

To the people saying that the likes of Military Arms Channel are a press, I understand your opinion. I'd hope that the gun channels are about showing the truth, with the possibility of bias. That doesn't make them a press, in my opinion. To me, a press is about showing the truth in an unbiased way.

To the people saying that this is an effort to stifle speech, you're about to see Chambers's Terms and Conditions about hate speech very quickly. I'm not trying to silence anyone. I'm just trying to get more people to show why we love guns, and why it's important that we have the right to bear arms.

To the people who are anti-gun, you are welcome to debate. If you can point out something that I've missed, please let me know. I'm happy to change my opinion if I see something that proves me wrong. I'm not trying to abolish your rights. I'm trying to work together for a solution that works for everyone.
