This is temporary, as I am not feeling good currently and won't be able to mod for a few days. I am interested in hearing your responses to this assertion. Please be respectful and professional. Thank you.

Edit: thank you everyone for participating in this experiment. After getting out of bed, i read every response and went back and forth.

I stopped being convinced about half-way through the thread when I read a comment that pointed out the very real, very intentional barriers the wealthy have placed between themselves and the poor. This isn't just pointing out the problems, it's pointing out a systemic form of prejudice that isn't allowed in any other form. When you hear the term "night shift workers", you might think nothing of it. But talking about "jews" or "blacks" or "indians" or any other group in this way is rightfully seen as classist (or racist). The wealthy exert influence over the systems of our society to oppress those without the means to improve their station in life.

Ultimately, hating the rich isn't classism because it's not a form of prejudice. It's pointing out the society-wide biases that the wealthy have bought influence to create, and are actively working to further. This very much violates the first bullet point I provided, but I thank you all for the lively discussion you provided.

Thanks!

Edit2: I've been asked to add a TL;DR, so here it is:

* Wealthy have placed systemic barriers between themselves and the poor, which is a classist prejudice not allowed in any other form.
* Pointing out the flaws with those barriers and wanting to destroy them isn't classism.

Edit3: Holy crap this blew up. Thanks for all the awards. I won't be able to respond to any of you directly, I'm going back to bed.
