Germany orders Google to stop mapping users' locations without consent

The Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HmbBfDI) has ordered Google Germany GmbH & Co. KG - a subsidiary of Google's parent company, Alphabet, Inc. - to delete location history data collected from millions of Android users and Google account holders without consent, and to stop collecting further such data.<br><br>The order comes after a yearlong investigation into allegations that Google had been violating Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by automatically creating user location histories by default. The investigation concluded that Google had failed to comply with the GDPR’s requirements for transparency and consent.
