Don't let anyone tell you that both parties are corrupt. One party in particular is a threat to democracy

I'm tired of seeing the "they're both corrupt" apologetics. I'm tired of both-sidesism. I'm tired of people saying, "well both parties don't care about the average American." Nothing could be further from the truth.

I'm not saying that Democrats are saints and that there is no corruption whatsoever. But I am saying that the Republican party is an existential threat to our democracy as we know it. And I don't think I'm being hyperbolic when I say that. I think the facts back me up.

We've got a former president who, despite his popularity, lost re-election, and yet decided that the best course of action was to incite a violent insurrection against the United States of America. What did Senate Republicans do? They acquitted him. Not once, but twice. They refused to hold him accountable.

Meanwhile, Manchin and Sinema, the two moderate Democrats, might be roadblocking the Democrats' agenda, but they still haven't threatened to end our democracy yet. The courts are the Democrats' last line of defense against the Republican party.

Republicans have used gerrymandering to overwhelmingly take control of Congress and state legislatures, despite getting less votes. Democrats have been redistricted out of winning.

Throughout 2020 and 2021, Republican-controlled state legislatures passed laws to make it harder for people to vote. They are actively working against the concept of one person-one vote.

We've had a judge rule that a school district cannot have a mask mandate and a different judge rule that they must have a mask mandate. We've got judges who have ruled in favor of one man's freedom to contract COVID, but against his freedom from contracting COVID.

We've got Greg Abbott in Texas who signed a bill that would ban abortions after 6 weeks. He also signed a bill that would allow people to sue anyone who "aids or abets" a woman in getting an abortion. This is a gross infringement on women's bodily autonomy.

We've got Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault and still confirmed. We've got Clarence Thomas who repeatedly fails to disclose his wife's conflicts of interest, and has no problem ruling on cases involving his wife.

And now we have the Supreme Court about to overturn *Roe v. Wade* and rule in favor of Mississippi's ban on abortions after 15 weeks. This is an unprecedented breach of separation of church and state. The Supreme Court has traditionally been the most important bulwark of individual rights. Now they're refusing to do their jobs.

We need to stop pretending that both parties are equally as bad. It's not a both-sides thing. Democrats have problems and I'm not excusing them by any means. But Republicans are actively working against democracy. Republicans are actively working against the concept of liberty and freedom for all. Democrats are not. Democrats are not the ones trying to prevent people from voting. Democrats are not the ones trying to undermine the integrity of the election. Democrats are not the ones appointing judges who are willing to undermine the integrity of the election.

If Democrats lose in 2022 and 2024, you will still be free. You'll still be able to work, or do whatever you want. Republicans have no problem undermining democracy. We are already seeing the results of this. If Republicans continue to undermine our democracy, we will not have a functioning democracy anymore.

Edit: 1000+ comments, this conversation is going in all directions. Please stay on topic.
