I’ve been minimalist for 6 years. I’ve read every book and article on this, and it all seems to be the same thing over and over. I want to contribute something and give everyone advice, but I’m not sure how to say it. I’m a terrible writer.

If you want to be a minimalist, you need to change your entire mindset around consumerism. Stop buying things, completely. Don’t follow clothing brands, stop shopping at Target and Walmart, don’t sign up for deals, stop taking surveys to get rewards. Don’t buy books on minimalism, go to the library. Don’t purchase online courses, go to your local library and ask if they have anything similar.

Stop buying cheap crap and realize that you get what you pay for. If you’re going to invest in something, do it properly and don’t buy the cheapest thing you can find. Stop saving coupons and clipping rewards.

Don’t go to the store without a plan. Don’t go to the grocery store without a list. Don’t go to the mall without knowing exactly what you want. Don’t get on Amazon if you don’t know what you want.

Stop taking your surroundings for granted. Your space is your responsibility. Take responsibility for your mess. Don’t buy a house bigger than you need.

Take advantage of services available to you. Use your local library. Use a gym (a place that offers classes). You don’t have to buy all these things all by yourself.

When you do buy something, buy it the right way. Don’t leave the house without a list. Don’t go to the store by yourself. Invest in the right things. Don’t use credit cards. I see a lot of minimalists saying “I want this, but it’s so expensive and I don’t have have the money.” Stop trying to buy everything you want and focus on what you need.

Lastly, this is a lifestyle. You can’t be a minimalist without commitment. You can’t read a book and expect to be a minimalist. This takes a lot of work, and you have to put in the effort.

TLDR: stop buying things and stop expecting instant results, this is hard and takes a lot of work.
