A young British man still in school aged 17-18 stumbles upon a weird app with a blank icon on his phone, he doesn’t remember installing it and only found it because it was placed in the same spot on his home screen which took over the spot of another app he was trying to open.
When he opens it, a prompt appears asking for his age, he has no idea what this app does but figures he’s got nothing better to do so he inputs his age.
Another prompt appears asking him to read the terms of service to get started, he gives it a quick glance and then scrolls down to the bottom and agrees to the terms.
After which all the other text on the screen disappears and just a number appears in the centre of the screen.
He swipes the number and a message pops up saying that he now has one point, then the screen goes black.
The app closes and the young man is confused but thinks nothing more of it.

The next day he gets a notification, “you have 3 points”.
Confused he opens the app and sees the points, he swipes it again and gets another notification.
“You still have 3 points, swiping without reading the terms of service is not effective”
Confused and annoyed he goes to the terms of service
When he does, he is met with a long list of items, but with lots of British terms in it.
Things such as “free bus pass” with a value of “3 points”
“Free Uni” with a value of “1000”
And “immunity to prosecution from any crime” with a value of “5000”.
The young man now is too busy to read through the 2000 terms as some of them are in small print and take up most of the screen.
He just can’t be bothered to read it so he scrolls to the bottom and agrees.
When he does, he gets a notification saying that he has 2 points.
Confused, he goes back to terms of service and after navigating to the bottom, he finds out
“Every time you agree to terms of service without reading it, 1 point is deducted”
The young man is now annoyed, he tries to exit the app out of frustration, but then a notification pops up. “One point for closing the app”.
He had no idea how to get out of the contract.
When he wakes up the next day, he gets another notification.
“You have 2 points, 1 contract point was used to purchase British slang dictionary”.
He tries to exit the app, another notification, “one point deducted for exiting without reading the terms of service”
He is now left with 0 points, but at least he has a free pass to British slang.
