The biggest mistake people make when meal prepping

I see a lot of meal prep posts on here and a lot of “wow, I wish I could meal prep”, and it’s really easy but there is one really common mistake that makes a lot of my friends decide they can’t meal prep.

The mistake is making a huge batch of one single thing.

The solution is making a lot of one base ingredient and then using that different ways.

When you make a huge batch of one thing, you end up eating the same meal over and over and over. And it’s fucking boring. And then you get sick of it and you hate meal prep.

For example, I will make a big batch of sweet potato and then I might eat that with chicken and broccoli, or with fried eggs, or with avocado salsa... etc. And it’s the same base ingredient but it’s being prepared completely differently. Even though I used the same sweet potatoes, the different dishes taste like different meals so I don’t get sick of it.

This is what I usually make for a week of meal prep:

* Proteins (usually 4-6 proteins with a mix of meat and plant-based)
+ Chicken breast
+ Turkey or veggie burgers
+ Salmon fillets
+ Greek yogurt
+ Beans or lentils
* Veggies (usually 6-8)
+ Leafy greens
+ Some kind of root vegetable like sweet potatoes or cauliflower
+ Some kind of squash
+ Some kind of berry
+ Avocados
+ Tomatoes
+ Some kind of nut
* Carbs (sometimes, not always)
+ Bread
+ Pasta or rice
+ Cereals or granolas

I do the heavy lifting on Sundays and prep all my ingredients and then each day I throw together a quick meal using what I’ve got. And when I want to mix it up, I can just make some new ingredients. But I don’t get sick of it because I’m not eating the same meal five times a day.
