New law in Europe will force Apple to switch iPhones to USB-C.

The USB-C will be mandatory on all smartphones sold in the European Union from late 2024, meaning that Apple will have to switch from the Lightning port used on the iPhone.<br><br>The move by the EU is part of a broader effort to cut down on electronic waste, and means that consumers will no longer be required to buy a new charging cable with every phone.<br><br>From 2026, laptops will also be required to have USB-C ports, meaning that the MacBook range will also have to adapt to the change.<br><br>The rule will apply across all 27 member states, in addition to Norway and Iceland.<br><br>Apple have expressed concerns about the move, saying that a “one-size fits all regulatory approach would slow innovation.”
