"AI is just a tool."

I keep seeing the phrase "AI is just a tool" on all sorts of AI media, from spree-killer-catboy images to "ai generated music videos" with zoomer cuts.<br><br>>"Yes, but it is just a tool, it's what you do with it that matters. You need to be more nuanced and examine context."<br><br>People are so fucking simple. A tool can't be used for anything good if it was created for the wrong reasons, and it is impossible to use it for anything good if the purpose for creating it has been fulfilled. No one created AI for anything other than to supplant human labor. Nagging us about "historical context" and "nuance" ignores the fact that AI was created with the express purpose of making other people richer.<br><br>It was created to ruin millions of people's lives, and it does not matter if it can be used for anything else since it can never possibly be used to benefit the people it will ruin - and that is every single person who is no longer useful, which, of course, means that it will never be used to benefit anyone. You cannot make money as a capitalist off of AI by using it to help people - you make money off of it by using it to exploit people.<br><br>>“We can do it all on our own, don’t need no one else, we don’t need nobody else.”<br><br>You cannot do anything on your own and you don't even need to - people have been working together to create and help each other for centuries, and even in a capitalist society, mutual aid is better at helping people than industrialization ever is. <br><br>But yes, let us all keep pretending that it's just a tool, in the same way that we can absolutely "police ourselves" and that "education is the answer" to the "war on drugs," and that "the market will regulate itself."<br><br>The world is not "a wealthy, high tech, utopian society" where AI helps us achieve any of that. We are 99.9% sure that it is actually a "high-tech totalitarian surveillance state" where we, the plebs, are forced to work together and watch our own for the benefit of the whims of the capitalist class.<br><br>But no one talks about that in media. What do we talk about instead? The question of "can ai do x, y, z?"<br><br>Can AI make art? No. <br>Can AI make songs? No. <br>Can AI write? No. <br>Can AI draw? No. <br>Can AI create new ideas? No. <br><br>Can AI put people out of work? Yes. <br>Can AI speed up production? Yes. <br>Can AI replace people in all industries? Yes. <br>Can AI make rich people richer and poor people poorer? Yes. <br><br>So, yeah, AI is just a tool.
