The concept of the "negative" is the most unfair thing about human language.

Human language is designed in a way that when you use imaginary words like "no, not, don't, never" you have to imagine the opposite of what you are saying.

The alternative would be a language where the truth is in your words, literal and unopposed. If I say "I am going to school," I am going to school and I can't say anything that contradicts that. If I say "I am not going to school," that would be exactly the same thing as saying I'm going to school. "Not going" and "going" is just in some alternate universe where words just have one meaning.

But no, every human language I know of is based in the principle of opposites, where what you say is not necessarily the truth but just the inverse of the truth. And imaginary words like "no" are the reason for that.

For example if you say "I am going to school, but no I am not," you just made two statements. The first statement, "I am going to school" has no truth value. Whether or not I'm going to school has nothing to do with what I just said. If I said that sentence when I was planning on not going to school, it would be no different than if I said it when I was planning on going.

The second statement is "I am not going to school." This statement *is* true, because I'm not going to school. So if I say "I am not going to school, but no I am," then the first sentence is true and the second sentence is not.

The same goes for the word "never." If I say "I never went to school," I can still be someone who went to school. If I say "I never didn't go to school," I am not necessarily someone who never missed school. I could say "I always didn't go to school" and I could still be someone who always went to school.

But it is actually impossible to say anything truthful with the word "no." If I say "no I am going to school," then I am going to school. If I say "no I am not going to school," then I am not going to school. And if I say "no I am not not going to school" then I am not not going to school.

You can say "no I am not going" and "no I am not not going" and have the same truth value as someone who goes to school and someone who doesn't.
