My grandparents are staunch democrats, my uncles are die-hard libertarians, and my dad is a proud trump supporter. I don't know if I'm a communist or a capitalist, what are the differences and which one should I support?

I grew up mostly with the political leanings of my father. He's a very hard working man who has worked his way up the corporate ladder for the past 25+ years to get to where he is today. He believes that the system works, but it is flawed. He puts a lot of trust into Trump and he genuinely believes that he is a good person who has the best interest in the country at heart. He, along with many members of my family, worry that the democratic party is getting too close to socialism and that it looks like we are starting to slide down a slippery slope towards communism. I also hear a lot of anti-communist talk from my uncles, who are the libertarians. They say that they don't really care what people do behind closed doors, that they just want lower taxes and more freedom. But ever since the US stock market took a nosedive, I have begun to question the system more. I don't really know the specifics, but it seems like there are a lot of issues with how the US government functions. So with that in mind, I thought that maybe communism could be worth looking at. I started listening to the CTH podcast and have read a few of the articles on the website. I don't know if I fully subscribe to Marxism yet, but I want to learn more. This has created a friction with my dad who goes back and forth between telling me that I'm growing up and that I need to make my own decisions and telling me that I'm naive and that I don't know enough to make a decision yet. He says that I should wait until I get out into the real world to decide what I believe in. But I feel that if I wait that long, not only will I seem like a stupid kid, but I will also be too deep in the system to make a change for myself in case that is what I decide that I need to do. I also feel that if I want to stay true to myself, I need to be able to speak up for what I believe in, even if that makes me seem immature and ignorant. I just wish that I could figure out what I believe in first.

TL;DR: I'm a 17 year old kid from a mixed political background who is confused on what I should believe in. I want to be able to back up my views with educated responses, but I'm not sure where to start. What are the key differences between capitalism and communism? How do you know that you subscribe to a certain ideology? Do I need to read Marx to understand communism?
