What did you find the strangest on your first visit to the United States as an international tourist?

I have travelled a lot of countries / territories as a European, but I have never been to the United States. I have no interest in going there either, even though I am intrigued about the country.<br><br>However, many Europeans that have visited the US told me that they were surprised at how different the United States were compared to Western Europe, and not necessarily in a positive manner.<br><br>So what was / were the strangest thing you have encountered during your first visit to the United States as an international tourist?
