Why is Duolingo so simple?

I get that Duolingo is for beginners but I’m not a beginner, I already fluently speak three languages and I went all the way back to finish the Spanish Duolingo. For some reason it took a lot longer than the other two. But then I started French and it keeps on repeating the same thing over and over again. Like “This is a pen” or “where is Paris, France?”. I already know all that stuff I can skip the basics and don’t have that problem with any other language on the app. I’m doing the whole story so get the gem but is it just a low point in the storyline? Or is there just something wrong with Duolingo?
