I'm a woman, I have 5 brothers, 7 sisters, and I'm one of 7 sisters. All of my brothers are threatening violence, saying they will 'take to the streets' if their rights are infringed or they are taxed to pay for things they do not believe in. I'm just so angry and hurt that I feel like I'm living in a war zone.

EDIT Well, let me tell you what.

I went to my brother's house last night and while I was there, a whole bunch of uncles, cousins, and their friends came over and started talking about the issues surrounding the protests and the election. They were from both political parties and different generations. There was only myself and one other woman there, the rest men. They were all so respectful and willing to listen to me, they made sure that I was comfortable and that I felt heard and I am just overwhelmed by the outcome of what was previously a very tense situation. I think the biggest thing was when I repeated a saying my father always said which is 'you don't get what you want with violence, you only push away what you want with violence.' One of my uncles stood up to the rest of the men that were being aggressive and he said something along the lines of 'shut up, you are not helping. This is our sister, niece, cousin, daughter and we should be ashamed of ourselves for scaring her.' But I don't really remember because I was in tears of joy at that point. The end result was that there was an agreement to put aside our differences and work towards a common goal of bettering the community. There will probably be some sort of town hall meeting so that people in the community can voice their opinions and concerns. So that's that! Thank you for all your kind words and advice, it really helped me approach this in a positive way.
