I need help trying to find errors in other people's code

Making mistakes is a part of life, but before I can do that I need to find errors in the cod myself. I have no idea where to begin, the errors will be in Java coding. I want to learn what to look for before I can write any of my own code so I know to avoid the errors. Any help will be greatly appreciate.
