If you are anything like me, you were riding high on the Biden wave, seeing massive lines of people out waiting to vote, fan after fan telling us that this was the year Democrats were going to finally vote in huge numbers. The polls said the same, as did FiveThirtyEight. The pollsters were acting like even election day voting wouldn't change much of the results.

Now we see that voter turn out was massive. We've been hearing that. But look at a graph for some states. Biden only got 31% Republican voters. Trump got 93% Republican voters. This means the structure of the American election system is still rooted in the two party system. Republicans didn't vote Biden. Democrats didn't vote Trump.

Now you have to look at the actual numbers of Republicans and Democrats. Republicans are slightly outnumbered by Democrats, but the margin has diminished. In other words, they aren't holding Democrats back in the same way they were. What does this mean for the next presidential election? Biden won big for Democrats. But this isn't a landslide. This isn't a wave. This isn't real change. What are we going to do about it?

And if things are about to get as bad as we think, are we prepared to take drastic action. We know Biden is not. It will be felt by 2024.
