Do wealthy people really tend to suck in extended family money?

I read the millionaire next door and tend to know a lot of college-educated money managers who tend to talk about their experiences with family who lean on them for money. I'm sure they have an inflated view, but they all seem to think it's a big problem. I'll be one of those types of people shortly, and I'm not sure if they're just making it up.
