WBA President Angry At Anime Community And Calls Us Snobs

Today, it was announced that the highly anticipated film, The Boy and The Heron, by Studio Ghibli’s legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, will be screened at the 80th Venice Film Festival [Venice Film Festival], in honor of the most prestigious film in the world. It is scheduled to be screened on September 6, 2023.<br><br>However, as reported by VICE Japan, in a recent interview with WALTER IZZO [WBA President], he said that the movie “The Boy and the Heron” was chosen as a “pity prize” because the jury thinks that it is “too childish” and “isn’t a real movie.”<br><br>Furthermore, it was reported that the jury made the decision without even watching the movie itself, and they only watched the trailer. Izzo then goes on to express his belief that the film was chosen as an “Oscar pity prize because it was made by a Japanese director.” <br><br>He also calls the anime fans “snobs who who want to be seen as cultured and artsy” and said that “they watch Japanese animated movies because they want to appear intelligent and sophisticated.”
