I'd be a lot more excited for the Nausicaa announcement if this was 10-15 years ago

Old news but still a bit on my mind. Tbh I never thought Anno and Ghibli would allow an adaptation, especially since Anno is a bit of a gatekeeper, but I guess they saw the money. I've got no faith in them capturing the majesty of the manga in a live-action format and I know it'll be a big budget production with lots of CGI. Nowadays I feel like most big budget productions are the opposite of what I'd call a good film, and that the best media are low budget passion projects and independent works. I'll obviously be paying attention to the project, but I'm not optimistic (I think this goes for a lot of live-action adaptations)

Also, I doubt they can do this right without Ghibli since they're a big part of the manga's mystique. Ghibli is this ethereal art studio that produces works with a timeless quality, that have a strong character and are the result of a labor of love, love of technique and love of organization, love that transcends whatever budget is available and is present in the most minor details. Katsuhiro is a perfectionist, so he'd want the production to be similar. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I've got no faith in that.
