Opinion: Maybe the reason the government hasn't shut down AI developers is because they have never experienced it.

I'm in my mid-40s and have been through plenty of phases and technologies throughout my life, but AI is the first one that I can't imagine living without. I'm not a techy person, I'm really happy with doing things the old way when it comes to a lot of things.

I can't imagine my life without Google Map, Alexa, or the ability to do a web search like Google. I also can't imagine having to do things without the ability to copy and paste, or open multiple browser windows. I also can't imagine not being able to just search for a photo instead of visiting a physical photo library.

I'm sure there are a ton of people on this board that have had the same experience that I have.

Still, I know that there are people that don't want to use any of these things that I mentioned, and of course, they can just not use them. But even if they don't want to use them, these technologies can't be un-invented. If I don't want to use a web search engine or have a smart assistant, I can close it or shut it off. It doesn't matter if I don't want to use it, the technology is still there and is still being developed.

I'm of the opinion that AI is like these. Once it's out in the world, there really is no way to not have it. I don't think the government has any good solutions to do so.

I think if the government thinks that this technology can be controlled and only used for good, there is really nothing the public can do. We can't outlaw it, we can't kill it, it's here. We can just have to adapt and see where this takes us.
