We're gonna live forever in a virtual world ?‍♂️

I've been thinking for a while now about the what we call human consciousness, after passing away. We know that all of our memories, thoughts and feelings are interconnected by neurons in the brain. Could you artificially recreate that in a server? What would be the requirements for that? I am sure that we're still very far away for that, but the idea also sounds weirdly familiar. I'm sure I'm not the first to come with this, but I don't really know where to look for what I want to know exactly.
