If my boss encourages me to switch to a different team, should I be worried?

I'm in my mid 30s and I've been with my current employer (1000+ employees, 12,000+ globally) for about 5 years. In that time I've gone from junior engineer to senior with the expectation of such a promotion this year if not next.

My boss approached me yesterday and said that he thinks I'd be better suited on a different team within the company, that I'd be happier, more engaged, and potentially make my way into a management role. He said that he brought me in under the assumption that I'd be developing software, an area he knows I'm strong in and has always enjoyed. In reality my role is mostly data analysis and some scripting, which my boss said are not the strengths he knows best about me. He seemed genuine in his concern for my engagement and future success.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, the team sounds more interesting to me, with more hands on work with prototype development, and I get along well with my boss's colleague who heads that team. I'm already sensing it's going to be a long road to senior here, and this might be a better opportunity. On the other hand, I'm worried the team I'm on is struggling and they want to "get rid of" me to make space for more junior people. I'm also worried that I'm not some special snowflake and that my boss is just trying to get me to ask to switch. I'm at a loss for what to think.

So what if...

1. I just say no, thanks, I'm happy where I am and want to keep working towards senior? Will I just seem arrogant? Or like I don't take initiative?

2. I explore the team they suggested I join and I like it, and I can make the switch? Will my bosses think I'm flighty?

3. I explore the team and don't like it or don't get along with the boss? Do I tell them that's what happened? Do they just think I'm picky?

4. I ask to explore and they say no and to just stay in my current role? Would they just be trying to keep the peace and do they actually want me to go?

Any thoughts would be great, thanks!
