This happened several years ago, not too long after I moved to my first apartment.

A little back story, I was in college, working part time, pretty busy. I didn’t have a car at the time but if you lived on campus like I did, you didn’t need one.
I walked to work, sometimes a friend would give me a ride if we were going out, other than that I did not leave campus much.
I’m not sure why, but for a couple days in a row, I just didn’t feel right walking by myself.
I felt like someone was watching me.
A couple days before this, when I was walking home from work, I saw this guy on campus. I didn’t think anything of it initially but later that same day, I saw him again.
He was just standing there in the parking lot, starring at me as I walked across campus.
I didn’t think much of it until I saw him again the next day, and he was still starring at me.
I felt like he was following me.

It kinda freaked me out when I realized that he was wearing the same clothes both days and I wondered if he had showered.
Don’t want to sound shallow but he was not very attractive. He was wearing a faded black shirt, a little too small, with brown pants and a pair of black dress shoes.
He also had a pretty bad case of acne.
Anyway, I just kept walking home, thinking nothing of it.

Fast forward a couple weeks.
I was going out with one of my coworkers, who I was very good friends with. I’ll call him Jake for the sake of storytelling.
Jake and I were the only two working that Saturday I believe, and we were just talking about our weekends, what we had planned, etc.
I didn’t have anything planned, and he had a date that night.
I was curious, I asked him about his date.
He was going out with a girl named Grace.
Grace was good friends with one of Jake’s good friends, so they had met a couple times, but this was gonna be their first time going out.
I was asking him questions, how he was feeling, first date jitters kind of thing.
I joked with him, saying I wanted to hear all about it the next day.
He joked back, saying the only way I wouldn’t hear about it the next day is if things went well and he didn’t come home.
That was around 9 a.m., we were closing at 5 p.m. and Grace was going to pick him up at 7.
As the day went on, Jake was getting more and more anxious.
At 5 I told him to just go, I could close up.
He said no, it’s fine, we still have customers.
I convinced him to go, it was no big deal, and he could call me the next day to let me know how it went.
He agreed and rushed to get his things together.
The time stamp on the clock out sheet showed that he clocked out 5:03, left not too long after.
When he left, there were still a couple people in the store.
One was a couple buying some snacks and another was a man, standing over his phone, looking at something.
The couple left, and it was just the man and me.
I didn’t think much of it, figured he was just killing time or waiting for someone.
A couple minutes went by, he wasn’t leaving.
I started sweeping the floor, and all of a sudden I felt that same feeling I had several weeks prior, that feeling of being watched.
I looked up and sure enough, there he was, the man from several weeks prior, at the end of the aisle I was in, starring at me still.
I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t feel threatened but at the same time it freaked me out a little that he was still watching me all this time later.
I just kept sweeping.
I thought maybe he was just waiting for me to leave so he could approach me.
5:15 rolls around, and he is still there.
I’m just sitting there with my feet up on the desk, staring back at him.
A couple minutes pass and he finally gets up to leave.
As he walks towards the door, I can see that he is on his phone.
I thought nothing of it.
He left then.
I locked the door and started to clean up.
Around 5:30 I heard a knock at the door.
It was a couple, they said they had seen me sweeping but thought we were closed.
I unlocked the door and let them in, telling them we were closed but if they were quick they could get what they needed.
I was sweeping again and preparing to close up when I saw a text message pop up on Jake’s phone.
I saw that it was from his date.
Curiosity got the best of me, so I picked it up to read it.
She was saying that she was going to be a few minutes late picking him up.
I looked at the timestamp at the top of the text conversation, and noticed it said 5:20.
That was when this guy, who I thought was watching me, left the store.
He had texted Jake, that he was going to be running late picking me up, but he wasn’t who was picking me up.
Jake was the one who had a date.
I felt so stupid.
I was sitting there thinking, why did he think he was going on a date with me?
Was it because I had asked about his date?
I don’t know but I’m over it.
I finished cleaning up and left.

Jake called me the next day to tell me that Grace said her phone had died around the time she was sending him that text.
Her phone didn’t turn back on until she was at his front door.
She didn’t remember sending that text, and when she picked Jake up, she said that she was only running about 10 minutes behind.
Jake also told me that Grace didn’t have any missed calls, and he didn’t call her to see where she was.
He said he thought she had texted him to say she was running late.

Jake and Grace went out for a couple weeks, but it didn’t work out.
They are still friends, so it wasn’t a bad break up.
Jake did end up telling her about the guy in the black shirt, and how we think he was watching me.
Truthfully I don’t know if that’s what was going on but it’s definitely weird that he was in the store around closing time, until he left right before Jake’s date was supposed to pick him up.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the story.
If you have any weird stories like this, please share.
