The purpose of work

I work as a software developer in a batch of hundreds of developers on a piece of software. I love that I can feed my family with my labor. But, I strongly believe that my work doesn't make the world a better place. And it makes me extremely sad. And I believe that the vast majority of people in the world are in my situation and it's terrible for them. <br><br>Do people really want to work on what we work on? I don't want to. What makes us work on things like that? What's the purpose of work?
