My husband has no idea he would not be alive today if it were up to men

Trigger warning if you’re sensitive to medical stuff or miscarriage.

I’m 8 months pregnant with my first child, and I am just so grateful to be alive. This baby has kept me up many nights, it’s given me horrible heartburn and I’ve gained a lot (and I’m still gaining a lot), but it’s all worth it.

The reason we are this far is because of the medical care I have received all thanks to modern science. I have a condition called placenta previa. Essentially, my placenta partially covers my cervix, which can make it difficult to deliver the baby if I end up needing an emergency cesarean. For that reason, I have had to be under constant surveillance, although thankfully, it’s asympomatic.

My husband is very excited to be a father and I don’t expect him to understand the emotional rollercoaster that is pregnancy (I’m not sure I would want to be in my shoes tbh). He was born into a male body and he has a very different life experience than I do, so it’s okay if he doesn’t understand. But that’s just it. I don’t expect men to understand. But I do expect them to respect my life and the life of our daughter, as well as the life of millions of women.

I read the news about the supreme court decision and I am heartbroken. Heartbroken for the women who won’t have access to necessary medical care. Heartbroken for the women who will be forced to become mothers, no matter how traumatic their experience was. Heartbroken for our daughters who, thanks to men, won’t have the same freedom and power as their fathers and brothers.

I keep reading how this is a huge win for the right, a huge win for conservatives and the pro life movement, but it’s not. This decision is a huge loss. Millions of women will suffer, millions will die.

I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know one thing; I will never stop fighting for equal rights. For my rights as a woman. For the rights of our daughters. We will not be silenced, we will not be oppressed. We are witches and we will not burn.
