Yes, I am calling you "sweetie", "honey", "baby", etc. Be grateful that I want to treate you like family.

I was working as a server many years ago and had a table of about 8 men, mid 30's-40's. I was probably around 20. When I took their order, one of them asked me if I was "going to talk like that all day" and I was like "yeah?" And he said "I just hate it when people talk like that".

I said "Oh, you mean when I call you 'honey' or 'sweetie'?"

And he said "yeah, I don't like it."

I said "well, I am a southern girl, so I'm gonna talk like that. But I will try not to. I appologize if it offended you."

He kinda rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath.

But then he went on to ask me about our beer selection and then pointed to a beer and said "I'll have one of this kind, **sweetie**."

And I was like "oh, what makes you think I'm your sweetie?" And I walked away from the table without getting the rest of the order.

They were quiet about it for the rest of the time, but it was one of those moments that I was like, "oh, I'm gonna get a horrible tip cuz I'm a bitch."

But they ended up adding a 20% tip for me. I don't know why they gave me a good tip. I'm not sure if the guy I did that too was the one who added the tip or if it was one of the others.

Anyway, I don't call people those things to demean them. I call them those things because I view everyone I talk to as family. I know it might seem unprofessional, but to me, it's how I come off as genuine.
