I’m the Head of Loss Prevention at a major retail chain and thought I’d answer some questions

I think I’ll be fairly clear by saying my employer doesn’t condone shoplifting, and neither do I. The only thing I can control is the information I give out, so I’ve drawn up a list of “Dos and Don’ts” and I’m happy to clear up any misconceptions.<br><br>I’ll give you an example of how this works - you guys ask me a question, I put it on the “To Answer” list. My colleagues and supervisors see my thread, and ask me why I’m discussing shoplifting on Reddit. I’ll say I’m happy to answer questions as long as I’m not breaking any rules or revealing confidential information, so they will go through my “To Answer” list and tell me what I can’t answer.<br><br>For example, I can’t tell you what our cameras’ field of view is because it may help you (and I’m sure some of you have already mapped the cameras in specific stores). If I say I can’t answer something, that’s why.<br><br>I’m only talking about shoplifting and nothing else, but feel free to ask me questions!<br><br>**Edit: I’m overwhelmed by the sheer amount of questions I’ve had so far, so I’m just going to tell you a few things I’m not allowed to say:**<br><br>- How many Loss Prevention staff are on shift at any given time<br>- How many cameras are in the store<br>- What software or hardware our cameras use<br>- What our policy is regarding detaining shoplifters<br>- What our policy is regarding calling the police<br>- What our Loss Prevention room looks like<br>- What’s on our training syllabus<br>- How to get a job in Loss Prevention<br>- What kind of training we give to customer-facing staff<br>- Any details about past convictions e.g. names, details, circumstances<br><br>**TL;DR: If I say I can’t answer it, my colleagues have told me that’s the case.
