How can students do this and not realize it’s so wrong?

I can’t tell if it’s just the younger generation that thinks this is okay or if they just don’t realize they’re being wrong. I’ve been teaching for 15+ years and I’ve noticed a huge decline in students just taking work done by other students and claiming it as their own. There is one student in particular that I’m frustrated with. They have turned in assignments using the same words as their peers before them. I’ve had to open up multiple files just to make sure it wasn’t a weird coincidence. I can’t tell you how many assignments they’ve done this on.<br><br>When work is done digitally, how does a student not realize I can tell they’re taking other people’s work? I’ve opened assignments and it is 100% word for word the same as someone else’s work. They don’t even attempt to change the wording. <br><br>For context, the assignment was to write a paragraph explaining why their chosen scientist made important contributions to the field of science.
