I'm in my 4th year of university right now, my 2nd degree.

To get accepted to university here, you need to have C4 or higher in 1 maths subject, 2 science subjects, and 3 languages. Outside of that, there are few restrictions.

You have 17-20 subjects in highschool here, and you take national exams in 4-6 subjects. Unlike in the US, these exams don't really matter for anything at all, and neither do your grades.

1. For university, the grades are irrelevant. You need certain subjects, and you need C4 or higher. The rest of your grades don't matter at all.
2. For jobs, your highschool grades don't matter at all. Your "gymnasium diploma" is more important than your grades.

I have friends who have been accepted to university and college with straight Ds, and with 17-20 A's.

The same goes for work. Your grades don't matter, having a "gymnasium diploma" does.

P.S. If you have a good relationship with your teachers, and you're capable of charming them, you can usually get better grades, even if you're lazy.
