No, no, Amy. I didn’t go there to kill myself. I went there to die.

I couldn’t tell her, though. It was a secret I kept to myself even until now. If I told her, she’d never speak to me again.

I lived to die. I breathed to burn out. I worked to sleep. I wandered to stumble. I played to break. I laughed to cry. I danced to be silent. And I died to live.

It was a far greater sin than she believed it was. She thought I tried to kill myself. But if I wanted to die, then I would have. I went there to be reborn. I just didn’t know it yet.

In the mountains, where the eagles nestled near the sunrise, I cracked my egg. It was in a place I’ll never tell. I won’t even tell you its name. You’ll find it when you crack your own egg. Just leave it to the sun and the wind and the snow. They’ll tell you where it is.

What I will say is that you’ll know. You’ll find it. The way to your cave. Just listen to the whispers in your heart. You’ll find its beat. That’s the pulse of your soul. That’s the light of your life. And that’s how you’ll find your way back to your life.

You’ll know. Just listen.
