Yes, i know this is a crazy idea. I’d love to hear your thoughts. I am 29, high paying software engineer. I have worked the past 6 years in the industry. I am unsure about this, but also extremely passionate about it. I’ve been trying to do both in the past, but it was just too hard to maintain a good mental state to do both, one had to suffer.

Things that are in my favor:
1. My family is very supportive. I’d still have health insurance and a place to live if this didn’t work out.
2. I am pretty good, I was pro with another game and then due to career got sidetracked.
3. I have the money to start this venture.
4. Tons of experience, I have dropped in rank significantly in the past 6 months and I am 90% sure it’s due to focusing on work. I know I can climb the ranks, but after 6 years I am very good at this.

Things that are not in my favor:
1. My age. 29 is really old to start a career in gaming.
2. I am not sure about the quality of my gameplay, but at the same time it’s really hard to see your quality objectively. I have been spectating pro players and thought “I could play like that too”, but they are a younger generation (born 2000-2005 range).
3. No clue about what direction. I am fairly good at multiple games, and I am sure I can climb to pro level in multiple games. I am more interested in career in pro play and coaching than streaming. I am thinking about getting a “byte sized” chunk of games in a specific family, like the ones made in China. That way it’s really easy to transition, and there’s a large market. It’s harder to transition into EU/US games with established leagues and pro players.

4. No clue how to start. I did the usual online courses and watched the usual YouTube videos. I did a lot of spectating. I have good network in the industry, I have my friends from past playing and I have good network from my day job. I know people in different teams and leagues.

What do you think?
