I work 30 minutes from where I live. I'm still a student and have a second job working 10 hours a week in my current field.

There are two main roads to get to work, one is a toll road, the other is a non toll road. Recently I learned how to get to work on the non toll road without adding too much time to my commute. For every trip to work I take, I save $3. (The tolls are $3 round trip, but they are for each way so $1.5 each way, round trip is 2 trips.)

There is a parking lot at the office that is free, but it's a 3 minute walk from that parking lot to the building. If you want to park in a closer parking lot, you have to pay $10 a month for the privilege, or you can pay $2 a day. I am frugal, so I park in the free parking lot every day.

Today I parked my car and walked up to the parking lot I pay for. Someone was using a parking permit for our building, but they didn't work here and were using the parking pass on the wrong vehicle. They were getting a ticket.

As I was walking up the stairs to the building, I saw the cop writing the ticket. I thought to myself, "I'm so glad I'm frugal and don't park there." I went to work, not having to pay $2 for parking today.

Every month I save $30 a month by not parking in the closer parking lot, and I save at least $30 a month by not taking the toll road. Additionally, today I saved a $50 parking ticket because I didn't park where I could have gotten a ticket. (I've never been ticketed there as I don't risk it, but I park there sometimes when I'm dropping something off or visiting.)

**TL;DR:** I am frugal. I didn't pay to park and didn't take the toll road and saved a parking ticket. I am happy.
