As a 90s kid, I finally graduated from anime.

I've been watching anime consistently since 2002 and the reason why I say that I've finally graduated from anime is because I've finally learned to appreciate other genres of television just as much as it, if not more than it. I'm not saying that there isn't anything good in recent anime, but the sentiment I mentioned is a pattern I've noticed for the last couple of years and it's finally starting to grow on me. I think it's just human nature that we grow out of certain things over time and I think that's the road I'm on. I've always been into action-adventure anime and have never been into the slice of life type, so it's always been about the action-adventure and fantasy type of anime for me.

For example, I'm not saying that there's nothing good in recent anime, but it's hard to defend anime with 75% of them being isekai, 15% being high school romance, and 10% being anything else. That means I have to sift through a lot of shit before I find something that I actually like. The other thing that I've noticed is that it's pretty rare for me to finish a block of five episodes and find myself saying "Wow, that was fucking awesome!" unless it's an older title.

One of the reasons I got into anime was because I couldn't get enough of it growing up. It was hard to find and anime wasn't popular. The market was a lot smaller and I think that's a big part of the reason why it was so difficult to find. At least for me. Anime wasn't for everyone and it was something unique.

I've been into 'The Last of Us' series on HBO and I have to say that that series has been the first time I've been this much into a non-anime show in a long time. 'The Last of Us' is just as good, if not better than anything I've seen in anime in the last few years, and that's what I mean when I say that I've finally graduated from anime.

I'd like to say that if it weren't for the immersion of modern television, my opinion and perspective over recent anime would be different, but I can't say that. I'd be lying.
