Today I watched Donald Trump tell a lie so egregiously obvious he must have known it was a lie, so I took it to FactCheck.org and got the same results I always do: he’s a compulsive liar. It makes me feel powerless.

I believe that Donald Trump is a compulsive liar. He lies more than he tells the truth. Often, he knows what he is saying is not true, he just says it anyway. The way he talks, he knows deep down he’s lying. But I still have trouble understanding why he lies so frequently about things that are easily disproven.<br><br>I’m past the outrage phase. Even though it’s offensive that he can’t be bothered to tell the truth, I can’t stay there any longer. It makes me too angry once I get to that point. People say that perspective is important, especially this close to the election. I can take a step back from my intense emotional reaction and see the facts.<br><br>So ultimately, I have to believe that Trump is only a symptom of a larger disease, and the disease is his base. When Trump does something terrible and offensive to me, he is still revered by his base. This never-ending scrutiny of Trump has gone on for four years now, and if his popularity has been affected at all, it’s certainly not by much. <br><br>I don’t want to write off Trump supporters. I just don’t know how to reach them, so I have to keep doing what I’m doing and praying to God that Biden wins. <br><br> politicians lie, pretty much all of them have lied at some point in their campaigns. But generally, politicians are truthful and they only lie in situations where they can get away with it. The difference with Trump is that he lies compulsively, all the time, even when it’s completely pointless to lie about something and he knows that anyone can easily verify the truth with a simple internet search. For instance, he lies about the weather. He lies about the stock market. He lies about his health, and lies even when it’s not necessary to reveal personal information about his health. It’s like he has a compulsion to lie about anything he can, no matter the reason or the circumstances. He has demonstrated that many times, and it’s all on tape. When the press confronts him on it, he just lies again. It makes me wonder if he is even capable of telling the truth, and at this point, I do not think he is.
