Every week, someone writes a comment about how "I got in trouble at school for saying [said gun-related thing]."

Because of this, I have a very important message:

**Teachers do not have a duty to protect you, they have a duty to keep you safe.**

In the eyes of teachers, a student talking about guns is not safe and is a disruption. They will send you to the principal’s office, or get you in trouble, or suspend/expel you. Teachers are human beings, just like you and me. They have the same fears and emotions we do, and they will react to things based on how they feel about it. Therefore, if you mention the “G” word and the teacher is anti-gun, they will send you to the principal’s office.

**Teachers are just doing their job.**

Humans by nature are social creatures. Humans are naturally inclined to do what society says. Just as you hate getting in trouble at school, teachers hate getting in trouble by their bosses, too. And, just like you, teachers want to get paid. If a teacher tolerates any sort of mention of guns, then they risk being reprimanded and/or fired. They want to get paid, just like you want to be fed, clothed, and have a roof.

**Do not talk about guns at school.**

If you’re going to talk about guns, make sure it’s with people you trust, like your parents, family, or friends. This is the safest place to talk about guns. Your friends and parents will not care because they know you’re a safe person, and they know you’re not going to shoot up a school.

**In conclusion**

Stop blaming teachers for being mad at you for talking about guns. They’re just doing their job. If you don’t want to get in trouble, then don’t talk about guns at school. If you feel the need to talk about guns, find a suitable place to talk about guns, like your friends and parents.

Edit: Please stop attacking my inbox with angry comments and PMs.
