My son is about to start cooking school and they have a bunch of assignments where they have to make different things within a budget. He was telling me about the program they use to calculate the price of ingredients. It made me wonder, what’s the best meal you’ve ever made for under $2?

I think mine was when I was in college, and we’d get a little pack of lentils for 50 cents, and then sauté some onions, celery, and carrots, and then toss in the lentils, broth, and a leaf of thyme. It was a million years ago and I can still taste it.

What’s your story, people?
