It’s easy to forget that your professors have always learned under the same conditions that were passed down to them by their professors and over the generations. All education on earth in recent grades k-12 or collegiate has had the basic structure of this : 1. The teacher stands on a stage and does the talking. 2. You sit down and write down the things you want to hold on to. 3. There is a place to do your work when you’re not at home. (So you have to physically move yourself to another location to do work)

They don’t understand the amount of self discipline it takes nowadays to physically move your phone across the room, or to put any app you like on DND while working. They’ve never experienced a world where you can be on social media or any other app on your phone instead of the only app you have to be on for school. They don’t understand the difficulty of having to physically move yourself to a desk by yourself at home and do your work. Working under these conditions never existed until recent years so it is not their fault.

**They are people who are very smart and know very well how to learn, but their learning environment is not the same as yours.**

Now they are not bad people, but they don’t usually give out the cure to this problem of self discipline because they also don’t understand it. If you want to succeed in this unprecedented digital age, **you have to learn how to learn** in a way that they can’t teach you. There is a growing community of people who are under 40 who understand the problem you have been placed in to and they are the people you should be listening to.

**If you don’t want to fail in life, you must go out of your way to learn how to learn in this environment.**
