How to learn from a bad teacher

I've been learning Bulgarian for about half a year now but all the teachers I've come across in my city are pretty terrible compared to the ones I had for other languages I learned. One teacher is mainly conversational and isn't really teaching me anything. Just some random words and random grammar sometimes and leaves me with no homework. Another teacher tells me to buy a textbook and then just tells me to do the exercises in it and that's it. This is really frustrating because I've studied many languages with good teachers that taught me well so dealing with these teachers is very annoying. Do you have any tips on how to teach yourself after being taught by a bad teacher?

I'd be happy to hear about your experiences and thank you in advance for your tips.
