Hey guys, I was an 8th grade public school teacher for about 11 years. I tutored math on the weekends as well.

I just got my MPA degree 2 years ago. I’m currently in charge of two departments for a city of 60,000.

I don’t believe a day goes by that I don’t have at least one phone call or letter in the mail, or email from a citizen that thinks their voice overrules everyone else’s. That any decision we make has to be what they want. That’s not how it works. I have 60,000 people, and there are at least 30,000 opinions on most things. As an employee, you are an employee. If you disagree with how something is done, it’s ok, but it’s not your decision. You need to understand you work for the public. You do what the public wants because we are a democracy. We don’t make decisions, we do what the majority has decided is best.

If your department made a decision, your boss doesn’t override that decision because you emailed him. Your boss doesn’t change a policy because you put in a complaint.

CMV.
