The role of “not like the other girls”

I was thinking about the fact that it always seems like men are attracted to women who create this “not like the other girls” (NLTOGs) persona. They’re very drawn to the idea of a woman who is less feminine and who rejects the traditional roles of femininity. I think it’s because they want to believe that they’re able to break down those walls and get to the “woman” behind the persona. That they can be the one to open their flower and make them true women.

I feel like that behaviour is very connected to what people call “the manic pixie dream girl” which is just a character who helps the male protagonist get out of the house and “Live a little.” But really it’s just about making the men feel like they can manipulate and change women, like it’s not a big deal and they can change any woman they want with a little bit of effort. I don’t have any real conclusions, just a theory. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?
