I've taught 5th grade for 20 years. We usually get the kids as they transition to the upper grade levels, from 3rd to 5th, which is often interesting to watch.

I had a kid last year, a quiet, polite, kid who always kept to himself and didn't interact with many kids. He often would just come to class, do his work, and go back to his morning class. He never once interacted with the other kids in class.

This year I have his brother in class. And its like night and day. The kid that never talked, is one of the most outgoing and funny kids in school now. Today in my class his brother was like "my brother is such a class clown now!" Then he proceeded to say, "I saw him being friendly with the principal yesterday." To which I responded, "so hes capable of speaking".

Anyway, I guess what I am saying is kids are weird and will surprise you when you least expect it.
