A shadowy figure approached Katana, the only survivor of the crash. “Blood isn’t everything Katana. Become one if us.”

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a lone ship called the Prime cruised through the endless blue waters. It was an era of peace, and Katana was ecstatic to see her fiancé in the capital, a city far from the wars that left devastation and poverty. She was a captain of a security armada, so seeing her fiancé wasn’t that common. She wanted to be there for her children’s mid-term ceremony, and celebrate her engagement with her family. She had never been more excited for anything. She was finally going to live a life she could call her own.

Staff walked down the long corridors of the ship, performing the tasks assigned to them. Children ran wildly down the corridors laughing as they were on vacation. Over 5 thousand employees were part of the crew, and staff. It was a behemoth of human ingenuity, it held almost a thousand passengers. The huge ocean liner was impenetrable to natural forces, and its equipment was considered state of the art. From the early days of the era, humanity has seen dreaded wars that almost sank the planets. It was a miracle that the wars had finally ended. For the first time in centuries, peace was almost within reach. The ship was a sign of that peace, and Katana believed she was living a fantasy, one that she never wanted to wake up from.

But that fantasy was crushed as the ship rammed into an iceberg in the middle of the ocean. Water flowed into the cargo bay, and staff were in a panic as the front of the ship began to sink. Sirens were blaring and announcements were made as the crew tried their best to coordinate an evacuation, but it was too late. The ship was sinking, and many passengers were trapped inside their cabins. Katana helped as much as she could as the waters rose higher and higher. With a loud ripping sound, the ship was split in half, and only the front half of the ship was left. The sound of screams echoed in the cold silence of the ocean. Katana wept as she thought about her and her fiancé's unborn child. She was never going to see him again. She left the sobbing passengers to board a lifeboat. She looked back at the ship as it dipped into the ocean. The sound of the collision still resonated in her mind as she rowed the small rescue boat far away from the sinking ship. She looked around, and she was the only one there. Split wood and debris were all that was left of the ship.

Katana lost consciousness due to hypothermia. She was found by a group of sailors. She went back to her home in the capital. It took her weeks to recover, but the trauma of the incident almost broke her. She had nobody to rely on. She was an outcast. She was shattered.

So on a cold and stormy night, Katana looked down at the gun in her hand. She had saved as much money as she could. She had bought a couple of guns, and bullets. Enough to end her life at any point. She almost pulled the trigger. But she didn’t. She slid down the wall of the room, and wept. How pathetic. She was a captain, a soldier. She protected her country. But she couldn’t protect herself.

She placed the gun on the table. And walked to the window. She looked at the city below. The sound of thunder echoed across the sky. The sound of rain hitting the window almost pierced her ears. The storm didn’t seem like it was going to stop. It seemed as though the storm was going to rage on for eternity. She left the window and turned back to the room. When she did, she saw a man with long black hair standing in front of her. She was startled, and she jumped backward. She reached for the gun on the table, and she pointed it at the man and cocked it.

“Who are you?” Katana asked. She held the gun steady as it pointed at the man’s head. But he didn’t flinch. He had piercing blue eyes that seemed to see right through her. His eyes chilled her to the bones. She knew that he wasn’t a normal man. He had black boots, a black coat and a black shirt. It looked as though he was attending a funeral. His white skin made the entrance even more dramatic. The man smiled and approached Katana.

“You are a strong and beautiful woman. But you are dying inside. I know that. But I know that you are not completely dead yet. Become a vampire, and live the life you want. You can avenge your family's deaths, and do what you couldn't do in life. Become a monster if you want. Become evil if you have to. And when you are done. You can finally rest in peace.”

Katana was startled. Vampire? She had heard of them. But she thought they were only myths, legends. She had never believed they existed. The man approached her, and she cocked the gun. “Don’t come any closer. I swear I’ll put a hole in your fucking head. I really don’t care anymore.” Katana was a soldier. She had experience with guns. She had used them, and she was ready to use it on the man. She had no problem putting a bullet between his eyes.

The man didn’t flinch. He continued his approach until the gun was pressed against his head. Katana looked into the man’s eyes. She wanted to see any sign of doubt, any sign of fear. Any sign of hesitation. But there was none. The man didn’t flinch. He didn’t blink. He was a statue. She looked into his eyes. She could see a void, and emptiness in the man’s eyes. She didn’t see life in his eyes. And for a moment. She felt a cold chill down her spine. She finally pulled the trigger.

“NOOOO” Katana yelled at the top of her lungs as she pulled the trigger. The sound of a gun echoed in the room. The man’s head exploded, blood sprayed everywhere. The man’s body collapsed backward. But it didn’t stay down. It slowly got up. But Katana didn’t see it. She cried, she wailed. She had killed a man. She had pulled the trigger. She felt something was off, but she ignored it.

But as she looked at the dead body, she realized that she had never felt any recoil. She hadn’t even felt the trigger going off. The gun was still cocked. She looked down at the gun, and she finally realized that she had never fired a gun before. She had never pulled the trigger. She always carried an unloaded gun. And she realized. The gun was still unloaded. She looked back at the body. And when she did, she saw the man standing in front of her.

That was impossible. The man had a huge hole in his head. His brain was gone. But he was still standing. He was still alive. And he smiled. “Blood isn’t everything Katana. Become one of us.”

Katana looked at the man in front of her. She looked down at the gun in her hand. But she never pulled the trigger. The man’s smile only grew wider. He approached her. And without any second thought. Katana stabbed him with the barrel of the gun as hard as she could. She pierced the man’s heart with the barrel of the gun. The man screamed in agony. She let go of the barrel. And as the man collapsed to the ground. She walked over to him. She looked down at him. She wanted to see the pain in his eyes. But when she looked down at him. She saw that he had disappeared. It was as though he had never been there.

She looked back at the room, and she saw the gun lying on the floor. And that was it. It was as if nothing had happened, and she was back to square one. But she realized that she was still holding the barrel of the gun. She looked at the barrel, and she realized that she still had a chance to live if she was willing to become something else.
The world of vampires, werewolves, and other monsters had begun.
